Pro Govinda League is India’s first professional league dedicated to the sport of human pyramid formation, traditionally known as Dahi Handi. A visionary sports enthusiast and established businessman, Pratap Sarnaik founded the Pro Govinda League with a mission to elevate the traditional Govinda Pathak culture into a nationally recognized and professionally managed sport. With deep roots in Mumbai as a successful real estate developer and community leader, he is a strong advocate for youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and the development of modern sports infrastructure. Under his leadership, Pro Govinda League has evolved into a dynamic platform that celebrates athletic excellence while staying rooted in India’s rich cultural legacy.
Purvesh Sarnaik brings a fresh, athlete-centric vision to the Pro Govinda League and has been instrumental in shaping its journey since inception. Actively engaged with teams on the ground, he champions franchise development, nationwide talent scouting, and the implementation of high-performance standards. His strategic leadership has been key to the league’s transformation into a serious, structured national sporting event—one that proudly bridges Indian tradition with modern athleticism.
The tradition of forming human pyramids, known as Dahi Handi, is a central feature of Janmashtami celebrations across India. This practice commemorates the playful and adventurous spirit of Lord Krishna.
In Maharashtra alone, over 1,000 Govinda teams participate in these events, drawing massive crowds and media attention. Cities like Mumbai and Thane witness participation from more than 300 teams, with individual events attracting tens of thousands of spectators. The scale of these celebrations underscores the deep-rooted cultural significance and widespread appeal of this age-old tradition.
